Nikola Motors clearly enjoys making waves and creating controversy while it churns out electric hybrid semis. Skeptics however like to point out there’s often little empirical proof behind their claims to big battery advancements, according to The Detroit Bureau. So is Nikola Motors sipping the nectar of success do you think? Or could their press releases of dramatic new developments be investment magnets, as some might say.
What Is Nikola Motors Claiming This Time
We suspect the cheeky start up might be on to something. That’s because they would otherwise be exceedingly daring to insist their ’holy grail of batteries’ discovery packs twice the energy into a given mass. And moreover they say they achieve this at 50% of the cost of current lithium-ion batteries.
If this claim is correct, then their pure electric trucks could have a driving range almost as good as a gasoline truck. This means 800 miles between cycles which would make them highway-ready with sufficient fast-recharging points. The Nicola founder and CEO was not taking prisoners when he claimed this is ‘the biggest advancement in the battery world’ including doubling smart phone density.

The Detroit Bureau says Nikola is acquiring a disruptive technology startup. When the deal is complete we will know for sure. This will be when it is Nikola Motors turn to provide an update at the Nikola World event next autumn.
We understand from The Detroit Bureau Nikola provided scant evidence for their claims. We gather they may have removed the electric current conductors and binder materials in current state-of-art lithium-ion cells. Apparently, CEO and founder Trevor Milton expects this will enable faster charging with a smaller and lighter battery.
We are not skeptics. In fact, we prefer to observe what is happening in our world of batteries right around the world. Therefore, we wish all innovators everywhere including Nikola every success. Each triumph adds new potential to reliable energy storage.
