We spotted a CNBC report that Harley-Davidson’s fortunes have been waning. This surprised us, as there seems to be a never-ending supply of its thundering ‘hogs’ on the road. Then we discovered its fan club was aging as a shrinking population of baby boomers visits its stores. It seems the iconic mark is partly pinning its hopes on an electric bike it calls the LiveWire Motorcycle.
How Does a LiveWire Motorcycle Fit the Brand?
That’s an excellent question we asked ourselves when we began investigating. We discovered the Harley-Davidson LiveWire Motorcycle is as macho as you can get. It is a brute of a bike that stands tall and proud, with as much of its mechanicals visible as possible.
Moreover, its electric motor emits increasingly high-pitched screams at an accelerating rate. At the height of its efforts, its crescendo could compete with World War II Messerschmidt at the peak of a bombing run. So yes, Harley-Davidson is still pumping out the macho. This does seem to run counter to the green trend, of quieter, gentler transport though.

How Much Info Has Harley-Davidson Put Out
A prototype LiveWire Motorcycle is on display at Milan’s international motorcycle expo. The company is not giving much out, except we can expect instant torque and no need to change gears. These factors allow the Tesla Model S P100D to go from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in 2.5 seconds. Who knows what’s possible on two perfectly-aligned wheels.
However, and that’s the $64,000 question, how will the market react to the change in direction? The low growl from the throbbing combustion engine ascending to a roar has been the epitome of motorcycling for decades. Perhaps the Harley-Davidson LiveWire Motorcycle is aimed at the European market, where there are plans to progressively outlaw petroleum vehicles.
We award the company first prize for recharging batteries though. The company says, “The LiveWire motorcycle has an on-board Level 1 charger. This is compatible with most standard household outlets, and it’s also fast charge capable too”.
