FAIR Health is a consumer guide aiming to help citizens understand their healthcare coverage and costs. It published a to-be-peer-reviewed report on May 18, 2022, suggesting most POST COVID cases had mild symptoms in early stages. This is a significant finding, and an alert not to ignore mild infections of the disease.
Symptoms Experienced BY Most POST COVID Cases
The study first analyzed private healthcare claims of over 78,000 people with POST COVID between October 2021 and January 2022. The core headline findings in the report – see link below – are as follows in summary form:
1… Some 75% of diagnosed POST COVID patients did not report to hospital with the virus beforehand.
2… However drilling down further, 81% of females in the sample did not have pre infections, compared to 67% of males.
3… Some 34% of participants in the 36-to-50 age group were most likely to develop the ongoing syndrome.
4… But females at 60% were somewhat more likely to progress to the secondary stage compared to 40% of males.
5… Slightly more than 30% of patients in the sample had no known preexisting chronic comorbidities.
6… Commonest symptoms among secondary patients included breathing complications (23%), cough (19%), and fatigue (17%).
7… Occasional co-occurring diagnoses included:
- Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in patients aged 0 to 12.
- Abnormalities in heartbeats in the age group 13 to 22.
- Generalized anxiety disorder in patients aged 23 to 35.
- Hypertensive diseases in the age group 65 and older.
8… Diseases affecting voluntary control of muscles were 11 times more likely, while pulmonary embolism occurred 2.6 times more often.
The FAIR Health researchers point out this is an early research report, because the POST COVID diagnosis code only became effective in October 2021.
