Mobile warming heated socks have proved to be a hit for people with cold feet especially seniors experiencing night cramps. The standard specification appears to include lithium-ion batteries and a wireless controller. Tech Gear 5.7 is recalling certain performance heating socks because some batteries have been overheating.

The latter reminded us of when the polar vortex descended on North America in January 2019 and our feet were freezing regardless of what we tried to do.

But there’s catch to this vision of warm legs and feet. As the actress sang in My Fair Lady “Warm face, warm hands, warm feet; Oh, wouldn’t it be lovely?” But overheating no. Tech Gear 5.7 issued an advisory that only affects socks with serial number MW18A04-17-14, MW18A04-17-15, MW18A04-M4-10/W6-11 and MW18A04-M10-14 .
They told Consumer Affairs.Com they have fielded four reports of their batteries overheating, melting or igniting, resulting in minor property damage in two instances. Melting of the battery case in the others occurred although no injuries are known. “These socks are gray and made of a poly-cotton blend in men’s and women’s size 6-10 and 10-14,” they said.
“The performance heating socks heat when the battery is connected and is in the on position. The heating on / off is controlled through the battery switch or the phone app when a phone is paired.”
