Returning to the Office After Lock Down

Our workstation may need some maintenance on returning to the office, after working from home for a while. HP says the first thing to check is the power supply. That’s because it can be behind 95% of the glitches we may experience when we fire up again. Are the peripheral cables still plugged in tightly and correctly, and do they have power? If so, we can take the next step and turn our computer off and disconnect it.

Cleaning and Disinfecting Computer Equipment

Next, we need to clean and disinfect our equipment with a sanitizer the manufacture recommends as safe. And then clean the cooling vents, ports, screen, and keyboard from airborne dust and grime that’s settled during the weeks, perhaps even months. A can of compressed air should blow them clean soon enough.

Then we can wipe the screen down without chemicals using a soft cloth from one side to the other from the top  to the bottom. After that, it’s back to the keyboard where a quick vacuum with help from compressed air should remove the dirt that’s accumulated there. Now we can recharge the batteries for a few hours until the equipment is ready to run.

Firing Up Again When Returning to the Office

It makes sense to update passwords, logins and security before we start working, according to HP. It’s an added precaution that could become essential if other people had access to our space. This should include downloading the latest version of antivirus software, and running a full scan.

The final stage of getting ready to work after returning to the office after lock down is updating software. This includes operating and application software even if they do not prompt us. We are now finally ready to roll.

We are back at work finally, surrounded by friends and colleagues we missed. Hopefully they all made it back. The people in our lives are very special. We should take time out to appreciate them, now we know what it’s like if they are no longer there.

Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
