The Scots have always tended to be ahead of the curve when it comes to technology. Indeed, we owe them much for their contribution to electricity and batteries especially. A smart energy company recently ran a poll that came back positive for eco- friendly homes. When Scottish people vote for something, they generally see it through.

The Scotsman, a venerable national newspaper says the nation favors “A giant battery to store energy from the sun. And windows which adapt to light to keep a house hot or cold, without the need for heating or air conditioning.”

However, although over two-thirds of Scottish people vote for an eco friendly home, one in every five of them don’t know how to go about it. Moreover, and this is worrying, three out of five expect the new technology will be “too expensive”. That said, they do see a way forward for smaller adaptions. Here, The Scotsman speaks of owning a composting bin and energy efficient white goods. And having a smart meter and a water efficient shower head.

Future Thinker Dr Ian Pearson Has a Broader Vision

While we may not see Scottish people vote to change their lifestyles radically, Dr Ian Pearson predicts a greener future. “The future will give us richer lives with a lower environmental impact,” he explains.

“It’s encouraging to see adults will prioritize reducing their energy demand via smart windows, solar panels and paints. And then use small wind energy harvesters, and smart meters to allow any extra energy to be sourced from renewables.” He envisages giant home batteries storing renewable energy, so life continues after the sun sets and the wind falls away.

“The future will give us richer lives with a lower environmental impact,” he promises. And that’s a future we long for in our lifetimes too.
