There Could Be No Turning Point for COVID

Wealthy nations may have passed the turning point where we could speak of an end to the pandemic. News.CN was speaking in the context of North America. But this could also be true of other countries where individual rights are enshrined. There could be no turning point for COVID as long as fake news floods the social media. And some fear the vaccine more than the disease.

There Will Be No Mark on the Calendar the Worst Is Over

Joanne Kenen described ‘a wall of resistance’ in Politico on 6 September 2021. She headlined a post of motorcycle enthusiasts thronging a street, wall to wall. They pressed up close together for a photograph without a sign of concern for infection. They were not kids, they were adults in their forties, fifties and sixties.

The surge may level off in the southern United States where it is raging, Joanne Kenen continues. But it will break out somewhere else. Protest in Europe against vaccines and social controls are increasingly virulent. The United Kingdom has retreated from government control, and left its largely vaccinated population to care for itself.

But There Could Be a Turning Point to Less Severe COVID

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy believes we’re looking at ‘something in the manageable middle’ according to Politico. ‘It is really important that we convey that success does not equal no cases,’ he insists.

‘Success looks like very few people in the hospital and very few dying. The gains we’ve made are sometimes forgotten or diminished, the vaccines are working.’ Vaccinated people are over-estimating the risk. Unvaccinated people underestimate it.

So there we have it in a nutshell, it seems. There could there be no turning point for COVID as long as this irreconcilable difference continues.  We may have to become accustomed to COVID being with us, for longer than we ever expected.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
