If you transferred more energy to the utility company than you consumed, the utility will show a credit. You will not have to pay any charge to the company but instead it earns you money.
It also helps the utility company when you supply surplus amount of energy to the grid. The company will utilize fewer amounts of fossil fuels to generate required amount of power. There would be savings in the use of fossil fuels which in turn lead to less pollution in the atmosphere.
