The Tianjin Lishen Battery Company maintains a low profile in Tianjin, China. The unlisted joint stock company does not even have an exclusive Wikipedia entry. However, Bloomberg reports it offers cylindrical, prismatic, polymer, and power lithium-ion cells. Moreover, it also manufactures lithium electric vehicle battery packs and application products, as well as ultra-capacitors and capacitor modules.
Tianjin Lishen Battery Company’s Secondary Targets

Tianjin Lishen has eyes on photovoltaic system products including portable devices, and storage systems for streetlights. It also has interests in off-grid and on-grid systems with storage for household applications. Finally, it is into hybrids for wind-solar-diesel renewable energy too.
U.S. News reported on 23 April, 2018 Tianjin Lishen Battery Company is planning an electric vehicle battery sales office in Germany. This will spearhead new initiatives in Europe, where it is negotiating to supply Volkswagen and Daimler. While the latter declined to comment, a Tianjin Lishen spokesperson confirmed, “We are negotiating with VW and Daimler. We have sent samples to these carmakers and are waiting for the next stage – mass production.”
Why Tianjin Lishen Battery is Targeting Europe Specifically

Europe is powering ahead to meet its Paris Agreement, and Kyoto Accord commitments. There are talks of banning gasoline cars completely, and automakers are investing heavily in electric vehicle technology,
Both Daimler and Volkswagen have made it clear they want battery packs designed around their electric cars, and not the other way around. Per U.S. News, “They are buying lithium-ion rechargeable batteries … from multiple producers to diversify their supply chains.” The numbers are impressive.
Because Volkswagen has a $24.5 billion shopping list. While Daimler is projecting 100,000 annual electric vehicle sales by 2020. Tianjin Lishen Battery is building its electric vehicle battery sales office in Wolfsburg, Germany. This is ‘in the backyard’ of the people’s car, which plans to sell three million electric vehicles by 2025.
