New Vaccine Test in UK Brings Fresh Hope

As Britain reeled under the onslaught of COVID-19 on 23 June 2020, two scientists of Imperial College London offered hope. They told the House of Lords there was a ‘high chance’ of their vaccine succeeding, and being available from early 2021. So how will the new vaccine test in UK roll out?

The New Vaccine Test in UK is In the Middle Phase

The Imperial College scientists have tested the new UK vaccine on animals and declared it successful. The first human test involves 300 people, to see if it triggers the same effective immune response too. If it does, then the third and final test in October will involve another 6,000 subjects.

The first 300 volunteers are upbeat. One told BBC she welcomes the opportunity to help. Duke of Cambridge, first in line to the throne says ‘This is the most incredibly exciting and very welcome project that you’re all doing which is why it’s fascinating.’ This could be because of the novel and unusual approach behind the vaccine.

How the Science behind the Vaccine Works

The researchers from Imperial College developed synthetic strands of RNA genetic code that pretend to be the virus. After they inject it into muscle, it generates numerous copies of itself. The scientists are proceeding cautiously by only injecting a few volunteers at a time.

The duplicate code then instructs the host body cells to make copies of a spike protein found on the outside of the COVID-19 coronavirus. This trains the host’s immune system to recognize and fight the virus, without the necessity of an actual infection.

This method is also remarkably efficient, because each injection uses a tiny amount of genetic code. As a result,  one liter of the product could provide two million vaccine doses. The new vaccine test in UK has reached this stage after just a few remarkable months. We feel positive about this one, and can’t wait for more news.
