The Folly of a Partisan Approach to Travel

We present the graphic from Health and Human Rights Journal, a Harvard publication as an example of the challenge. It shows the folly of a partisan approach to travel, as a virus spreads from the blue country to the brown and green ones. The brown and green ones block travel from the blue one as soon as they learn of it. However, they don’t block onward travel until they have their own diagnosed cases.

The Folly of a Partisan Approach to Travel is a Symptom

Oxford Languages dictionary  says a symptom is a sign of the existence of something, especially of an undesirable situation. The green and blue countries have taken a partisan approach to the virus. Sure, they prevent more infected people arriving from the blue country. However, since they don’t have their own cases yet, that’s as far as it goes.

Perhaps that why so many people social distance, but don’t wear face masks. We see the folly of a partisan approach to travel in our shopping centers every day. Naysayers keep their distance to avoid an infection. However, they do nothing to prevent the virus leaving their bodies if indeed it is there.

The Signs of Over-Optimism Are Around Us Everywhere We Go

COVID-19 is spreading across the world in an extreme case of over optimism. Every government on earth waited until they had their own infections before they acted. Most took too long, some never reacted at all.

The folly of a partisan approach to travel allows the virus to spread rampant. Hindsight is too late. A mystic poet wrote ‘once released, you cannot redirect the path of an arrow’.

A deadly arrow will continue to fly for as long for as long as unmasked people fail to recognize the risk. A deadly arrow will continue to fly for as long as they refuse to embrace social distancing.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
