Which phones will be hot this summer, ABC15 Arizona news asks in a tongue in cheek post?  Will Android or iPhone sales be superheating? We won’t attempt to answer that. Although we can guarantee a hot summer with global warming beating its drum.  Heat is the number one enemy of iPhones and Androids, so in the words of the song ‘you better watch out’.

Which Phone Batteries Will Be Hotter This Summer

We know for a fact that temperatures over 95 degrees can damage lithium batteries permanently. Our phones don’t have artificial intelligence to deal with this yet. So they’re going to have to rely on us doing smart things for them.

It’s pretty obvious we need to keep them out of hot cars, and away from bright sunlight. But did you know that running applications warms your phone too? So lower your screen brightness, and close out unnecessary apps. Adjust your phone to low power battery saver mode, but that’s not all.

Remove Your Phone Case and Reconsider Cosmetics

Remove your phone case, set it to one side and think again. Is it trapping the heat inside, or releasing it? ABC15 Arizona news has these thoughts to share:

  • A metal phone case helps dissipate the heat from inside to outside.
  • Whereas heavy leather, plastics and rubber may contain it inside.
  • If you get an overheating warning remove the case. See what happens

Keep your brain switched on, on this one. Don’t take promises on self-cooling cases for granted, check the details out carefully first. Remember this too. When you use your phone you release energy from the battery, and some of this manifests as heat. Only users can decide which phones will be hot this summer, so it is actually up to us.

I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
