We have been preparing for a Covid-19 outbreak in our neighborhood. Two or more cases could signal this happening in our community. In our imagination our communication networks are in place, and we have a tested action plan. Today we share how to go about activating our Covid-19 plan according to America’s Centers for Disease Control CD advice.
Protect Ourselves and All Others by Activating Our Covid-19 Plan
We should shelter by remaining at home if any family members have fever, coughs or difficulty breathing. This helps protect us and our fellow citizens from further infection and relieves pressure on the healthcare system. We should also keep away from other people who are ill, and maintain a safe distance from everybody else.
However, that’s not all. We should continue activating our Covid-19 plan as follows:
1… Regularly tune into trusted news channels so we know what is going on
2… Remain at home If a family member is sick, and stay away from school or work
3… Consult a healthcare professional by email or phone if their symptoms worsen
Then Implement the Precautionary Measures We Tested Previously
We should implement frequent hand washing immediately, and sanitizing of regularly touched surfaces. That’s because a household member could have the infection but not be displaying the symptoms. However if they do show the signs we should cut across to these more intensive countermeasures right away.
We should relocate the ill person to a separate bedroom ideally with own toilet and washing facilities. Then we should stay away from them as much as possible, and ideally wear face masks at all times while we care for them at a distance. That said, we are far more likely to contract the infection through our fingers to our faces.
The watchwords are therefore sanitize surfaces often, and don’t share anything that comes near our mouths including food, beverages, and unwashed utensils. Covid-19 is not an instant ticket to hospital. However, it does demand our respect while we go about activating our Covid-19 plan.
