Are There Times We Should All Wear Masks?

Dr. Anthony Fauci is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He believes ‘a national mandate [of face masks]probably would not work’ according to CNN on October 24, 2020. But he hopes the American public will come around to accepting there are times we should all wear masks. And thereby raise the relatively low percentage of people who are using them.

Strategies When There Are Times We Should All Wear Masks

However, Dr. Fauci does not believe a federal law ‘would be the way to go’ according to the CNN report. But he does think interventions at local level ‘would be very important. If governors and others essentially mandate the use of masks when you have an outbreak.’

Meanwhile University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation added pressure. They told CNN on October 24, 2020 ‘The country is entering a winter surge. As new infections passed 75,000 in a single day on Friday’ October 23, 2020.

To add further impetus these were rising in 32 states, and holding steady in 17 more. But how would Dr. Anthony Fauci react to this? Are there times we should all wear masks? This is an emotionally-laden question.

Dr. Anthony Fauci’s Suggestions in These Troubled Times

Dr. Fauci told CNN mask mandates ‘are tricky to enforce but it might be time to call for them’. However, this would need everybody to agree that’s important. And ‘everybody pulls together and says, you know, we’re going to mandate it but let’s just do it.’

America lives in epidemically troubled times, as the weather cools and we head for COVID-19 ‘high season’. We broadly support Anthony Fauci’s belief ‘we need to ‘double down on measures that work’. Agreeing what those measures are is another question, we guess.

I have been writing about batteries and energy storage for more than ten years, and have published over 4,000 articles on this website. During that time, I have researched developments across lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, flow batteries, and emerging energy-storage technologies. My goal is to explain complex battery concepts in clear, practical language that anyone can understand. My writing career began unexpectedly after leaving the corporate world. What started as a search for a new direction gradually became a fascination with batteries, renewable energy, and the science that powers modern life. Writing may not have made me wealthy, but it has given me the opportunity to explore an industry that continues to evolve in remarkable ways.
