The Ademco Vista 15 is an alarm system that has a backup battery (which looks like this) to keep it operational during power outages. It is manufactured by ADT and it provides owners with added security in times of burglary, fire and emergencies.

The backup battery of this alarm system requires replacement every 3-5 years. In case the battery warning beep goes off and the keypad displays “BAT” with no zone number, it signals that the battery is drained of power. Turn off the beeping sound by pressing [1 OFF]. After the AC power is restored, the battery will recharge. In case 24-48 hours have passed and the same “BAT” warning is displayed, that means your battery needs replacement.
Here are the steps to replace your Ademco Vista 15 battery.
- Purchase the Ademco Vista 15 battery.
- Put the system on test mode.
- Go to the control panel box that is usually in a closet, garage or attic.
- Disconnect the old battery by removing the black wire from the black (negative) terminal. Only after that should you remove the red wire from the red (positive) terminal. Wiggle tight wires to loosen it up. For your safety, use pliers with insulated handles. BE CAREFUL not to short the battery when removing from the control panel box.
- Remove the plastic cover of the new battery before placing it in the control panel. Connect the red wire to the positive terminal (red) before you connect the black wire to the negative terminal (black).
- Close the control panel box.
- Check the keypad display for the “BAT” warning. It is okay to have it there for the next 24 to 48 hours because new batteries need to fully charge at first. But if the warning persists beyond that, then there might be a problem with the system. It may be time to call the alarm provider.
- Recycle the old battery.
