The Ademco Vista 10 is an alarm system manufactured by ADT to add a layer of protection against emergencies, fire and burglary. It is powered by a backup battery (which looks like this) during power outages. The battery is recharged through the AC power and should be replaced in 3-5 years.

If you start hearing a warning beep and see that the keypad displays “BAT” without a zone number, that means the battery’s power is drained. You can turn off the beeping sound by pressing [OFF]. Restore the AC power to recharge the battery. If the warning sign persists on the keypad display after 24 to 48 hours, the battery needs replacing.
Here are the steps to replace the battery of the Ademco Vista 10.
- Buy the Ademco Vista 10 replacement battery.
- Place the system on test mode.
- Locate and open the control panel box. This can be found in a closet, attic or garage.
- Disconnect the old battery with the use of pliers with insulated handles. Start by removing the black wire from the negative terminal. Then, remove the red wire from the positive terminal. If the wire is tight, wiggle it to loosen the hold. Remove the disconnected battery and BE CAREFUL not to short it during the removal.
- Remove the plastic terminal protector that covers the new battery. Connect the red wire first to the red (positive) terminal. Then, connect the black wire to the black (negative) terminal.
- Close the control panel box.
- Look at the keypad display and expect to see that the “BAT” warning sign is still there. Allow the new battery to recharge. If the warning is still there after 24-48 hours, contact your alarm provider since your system might be damaged already.
- Recycle the old battery. Get in touch with the local recycler.
