The Safewatch Pro 3000 is an alarm system manufactured by ADT to help households and businesses get protection from fire, burglary and emergencies. This system is powered by a backup battery (which looks like this) that is recharged whenever the AC power/house electricity is on. It powers the alarm system even during a power outage.
If the battery needs to be recharged after a long power outage, the keypad displays “BAT” without a zone number. You will also hear a battery warning beep that you can turn off by pressing [1 OFF]. If you tried recharge it and the same sign does not go away, then you know that it is time for the battery to be replaced. This usually happens every 3-5 years.
These are the steps to replace the battery of a Safewatch Pro 3000.
- Get a new battery here: Safewatch Pro 3000.
- Put the system on test mode.
- Go the the control panel box that is usually located in a closet, attic or garage. Open it by removing the screws or using a key.

- Disconnect the black wire from the negative terminal first and then the red wire from the positive terminal. Use pliers with insulated handles. In case the wire is tight, wiggle it to loosen. Remove the old battery from the control panel. BE CAREFUL not to short the battery during removal.
- Remove the plastic terminal protectors that usually covers new battery. Connect the red wire first to the red positive terminal before connecting the black wire to the black negative terminal.
- Close the control panel.
- Check the keypad display. It is okay if the “BAT” warning is still there. But if the warning persists for the next 24 to 48 hours, the system may be damaged. Contact your alarm provider.
- Send the old battery to be recycled.
