Donors Choose: Help A Public Classroom!

We’d love to think that every school has sufficient funds and that every classroom is being provided with the best equipment to teach. However, that is simply not reality. Especially not for the thousands of public schools in the United States which generally get less funding as students don’t pay for admission. With Donors Choose , that all changes as donors could choose any classroom or cause that interests them most and then donate to it, while directly seeing where their money is going!

It Started With Little House On The Prairie

Donors Choose was founded in 2002 by Charles Best, a history teacher at a Bronx Public High School. The idea came as he was trying to secure copies of the Little House On The Prairie for his students. Best realized he was spending so much money on books for his students and that he wasn’t the only teacher struggling. Thus, he decided to put his hope in the public in order to help Public Schools. That is when the Donors Choose website shot up.  The first few projects were by Best and his colleagues. Then, within no time, it spread to include every single Public School in the U.S!

How It Works

Charles Best’s website made it possible for teachers all over the States to post their projects/needs for their classrooms and donors could donate to their favorites! The projects could be anything from needing funding for school supplies, class trips or for technology equipment. When someone decides to donate, they can directly see how their money is being used as every dollar goes to the chosen project and the students write back to the donors thanking them!
