Freezing Winter Damping Down Electric Cars

“Winter has come for electric cars” according to Fortune Magazine. Because lessons from the polar vortex suggest electric vehicle owners need to be better prepared. We can expect an increase in freezing winter weather to compensate for a blistering heatwave elsewhere. Therefore, our battery powered rides are going to need more frequent charging unless we learn to take extra care.

Model 3 Owners Tweeting Mad Over Freezing Winter Knock-Ons

“Winter has come for Tesla Inc. and its army of car owners,” says Fortune Magazine. Some of them have cooled on the company along with freezing temperatures, it adds. Now owners of Tesla 3’s are flocking to online forums and social media to vent their feelings.

They say their electric-powered sedans are giving problems during the freezing winter from the polar vortex. Furthermore their specific complaints include lower battery range. An auditor from New Jersey says, “My biggest concern is the cold weather drained my battery 20 to 25 miles overnight. Plus an extra five to ten miles went missing on my drive to work. I paid $60,000 for my Model 3 to not drain my battery so quickly.”

Tesla Is Not the Only EV Vehicle Maker Taking Strain

Salim Morsey, analyst at Bloomberg New Energy Finance told Fortune Magazine. “It’s not something specific to Tesla. It’s Panasonic that manufactures Tesla batteries. Thus it also happens to Chevy with the Bolt, and Nissan with the Leaf.”

However the Tesla Model 3 is taking an extra pasting over its flush door handles. The mechanism requiring a push on the one side and a pull on the other is freezing solid. Andrea Falcone, Boston software engineer tweeted a picture of her frozen handle, commenting, “I can’t wait all day for this silly car.”

A Canadian responded with a video of how he taped dental adhesive film over to protect his door handles from the freezing winter. Elon Musk tweeted Tesla was preparing over-the-air software updates.  These “would improve how its cars were holding up in cold weather.”
