Huge Coin Battery Recall on Amazon

A large-scale battery supplier has agreed to a huge coin battery recall, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). USA Today confirms that the recall includes some 312,000 lithium coin batteries, packaged in pouches.

Why The Huge Coin Battery Recall?

The batteries, as packaged in pouches, could cause ‘serious injury or death from ingestion’ according to CSPC. The way they are packaged also violates a federal statute for child-resistant coin battery packaging.

Specifically, the company initiated the huge coin battery recall, because the packaging does not comply with Reese’s Law. And as a result, there is a possibility that the batteries could cause internal chemical burns to children.

The batteries included in the recall are lithium coin battery sizes CR2025, CR2032, CR2450, CR2477, CR2016, CR1220, CR1225, CR1616, CR1620, CR1632 and CR2025-10.

These products were available for sale on Amazon in five, ten or twenty size pouch packs. The supplier’s name EEMB and the battery size appear on each coin battery. ‘EEMB’ also appears in the upper left corner of each pouch pack.

I Have Some of These Batteries. What Must I Do?

Reese’s Law became mandatory in September 2024. The name recalls an eighteen-month-old baby, who died after ingesting a coin battery. The parents hoped the statute would prevent similar tragedies in future.

This law requires that battery packaging shall be child-proof, and with warning labels. Apparently the pouch packaging fell short on these requirements, which is presumably the reason for the CPSC recall.

If you have any of these pouch-packaged lithium batteries, you may email EEMB at the link below for more information, or to request a refund. Please stop using these particular batteries packaged in pouches, and keep all batteries away from children.

About Author

I have been writing about batteries and energy storage for more than ten years, and have published over 4,000 articles on this website. During that time, I have researched developments across lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, flow batteries, and emerging energy-storage technologies. My goal is to explain complex battery concepts in clear, practical language that anyone can understand. My writing career began unexpectedly after leaving the corporate world. What started as a search for a new direction gradually became a fascination with batteries, renewable energy, and the science that powers modern life. Writing may not have made me wealthy, but it has given me the opportunity to explore an industry that continues to evolve in remarkable ways.
