Renewable Nations Bet on Battery Storage

Forward-thinking nations want their cultures to live on, and their children to inherit our spaceship Earth. Because they understand we can’t continue pumping carbon endlessly into the atmosphere. That’s why renewable nations bet on battery storage to help achieve a dream of universal alternative energy. Today we review remarkable progress achieved by two forward-thinking nations in this regard.

Two Renewable Nations Bet on Battery Storage Now

United Kingdom is focusing on wind, solar and storage batteries, to free it from its 40% dependence on natural gas. Moreover, Bloomberg describes how the island nation already boasts Europe’s largest amount of grid-connected storage. Its lithium ion battery stable alone has 1.9 gigawatts of capacity. And this could expand four times this decade.

However, lithium batteries can only deliver their energy for a couple of hours without recharging. And so United Kingdom already has significant hydro power resources in mountainous parts of Wales and Scotland. But there are limits here too in a country where low hills and flat lands predominate. That’s why it is actively exploring other energy storage alternatives.

United States also has other dreams in the pipeline. News 24 reveals that battery maker Panasonic is planning to invest $4 billion in a new battery plant. This would increase its capability to supply electric car batteries, including to its current major customer Tesla.

Panasonic is actively exploring its options as renewable nations bet on battery storage to close their energy gap. Inside opinion favors Oklahoma as a likely site, although Panasonic has not struck a deal yet. However, if it does, this will be over and above the $4 billion Kansas gigafactory it already announced in July this year.

A Panasonic spokesperson has said the company is ‘examining various growth strategies’ according to News 24. But there is no further information they can share at the moment, aside from what they have already announced. However, one thing is obvious and this is storage batteries look set to become America’s next boom industry.
