Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a comprehensive guide for reopening the office for work after lock down. Their report is however far too comprehensive to explain in a short post. Hence we provide a simple overview of the major focus points. And provide a link to the CDC publication at the bottom of this page.

Safety First Before Reopening the Office for Work after Lock Down

First check the mechanical systems in the building to ensure they are functional. Run the HVAC up and test it thoroughly. Are mechanical systems like fire alarms and emergency exits operational? Check and deal with any mold growth, and insect and rodent infestations that developed during lock down.

Identify high-risk employee areas next. Are there places where close contact is unavoidable, such as entry points and lobbies? What about meeting rooms, the tea kitchen, locker rooms and toilets? Share ideas for resolving problems with employees and contractors. Reopening the office for work after lock down is a two-way street.

Re-Engineer Office Space to Minimize the Risk of Infections

Move work stations apart, or install transparent screens between them. Do something similar in reception areas, or shut them down. Adjust the ventilation to reduce recycling air to a minimum. Open windows if you can, to increase outdoor air dilution. Have a technician replace filters.

Manage the risk at source by separating employees on arrival showing coronavirus symptoms. Send them home to consult a doctor. Disinfect their workspace, and anywhere else they were if this happens during the work day. Make sure employees understand and follow social distancing.

Finally, in this short resume find ways to have less people in the building. Stagger working hours and encourage employees to work from home where you can. Hold virtual discussions / meetings on the internet. Convert conference and training rooms to work spaces to relieve pressure elsewhere. Remember to be the example of what you expect, when reopening the office for work after lock down.

About Author

I have been writing about batteries and energy storage for more than ten years, and have published over 4,000 articles on this website. During that time, I have researched developments across lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, flow batteries, and emerging energy-storage technologies. My goal is to explain complex battery concepts in clear, practical language that anyone can understand. My writing career began unexpectedly after leaving the corporate world. What started as a search for a new direction gradually became a fascination with batteries, renewable energy, and the science that powers modern life. Writing may not have made me wealthy, but it has given me the opportunity to explore an industry that continues to evolve in remarkable ways.
