Should the Vaccinated Keep Wearing Masks?

Having full vaccination adds a great out-of-school feeling to our day. We did it, we congratulate ourselves and now we are through the eye of the needle. Sure we could still catch the virus, but now our immune systems are healthy and strong. But World Health Organization tossed a pebble into that pond when they asked should the vaccinated keep wearing masks?

Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization Disagree

World Health Organization (WHO) issued that opinion June 30, 2021. That’s because they have concerns about the new contagious Delta variants. And they believe we need to take every effort to contain them. To WHO, it’s perfectly logical to advise vaccinated people to keep wearing masks. And keep going with all other precautions too.

However, Centers for Disease Control apparently does not agree with this policy. Their spokesperson gave New York Times no indication current guidelines would change. CDC’s recommendations, as they currently stand are briefly:

1… You can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic if you have your full vaccination.

2… And you may do so without masking or physically distancing, unless advised otherwise by anybody with authority.

That ‘anybody with authority’ includes ‘federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

I Have Full Vaccination. Should I Keep Wearing My Mask?

In America, that’s largely up to you beyond the local requirements we mentioned. However, WHO added a layer of social responsibility at their press briefing when their spokesperson said:

‘What we’re saying is, once you have full vaccination, continue to play it safe. That’s because you could end up as part of a transmission chain. You may also not actually be fully protected. Be careful about saying once you’re vaccinated, you can just go ahead and do whatever.’

Eric Feigl-Ding, senior fellow at Federation of American Scientists in Washington told New York Times. ‘We’re not at the level of vaccinations where we can release the brakes on everything else, and herd immunity will grind transmissions to a halt.’
