When World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, we hoped it would be less traumatic than the 1918 Spanish Flu. We’d heard that infected a third of the world population, and caused 675,000 deaths in the U.S. alone. But we were taken aback when Nat Geo announced U.S. COVID passed that threshold. What can we expect six months ahead in the COVID-19 pandemic?

Here’s What the Next 6 Months May Bring

Money Web was not in an over-optimistic mood when it posted on September 18, 2021. We’ll have to wait longer for the light in the tunnel to show. In fact, the next three to six months are going to be more of the same again.

Schools will close and cancel classes, it warns. Nursing home residents will fear infections despite their vaccinations. Office workers may decide to remain at home while hospitals face the risk of running short of beds.

It’s a simple matter of facing facts the pandemic will continue, and the economy suffer until we almost all have our vaccines. Some of us may have the disease twice, as an rampant virus romps on spawning fresh variants. The coronavirus may have touched us all in the six months ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic, Money Web warns.

Surging on Six Months Ahead in The COVID-19 Pandemic

Michael Osterholm is director of Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. ‘I see these continued surges occurring throughout the world,’ he predicts.

‘Then it will drop, potentially somewhat precipitously. But I think we very easily could see another surge in the fall and winter of this year,’ he adds. So we can expect ‘more outbreaks in classrooms, on public transport and in workplaces over the coming months. As economies push ahead with reopening, and even newborn babies fall ill.

‘The next few months will be rough. We’re going to see hills and valleys, at least for the next several years as we get more vaccine out. We don’t know how big those hills and valleys will be. I can just tell you, this is a coronavirus forest fire that will not stop, until it finds all the human wood that it can burn.’
