Reuters advises the current U.S. administration reopened doors to international visitors on October 26, 2021. However, visitors to United States now require full vaccinations, and negative COVID-19 tests to enter. ‘It is in our interests to move away from foreign country-specific restrictions,’ the U.S. president said. ‘And adopt an air travel policy that relies primarily on vaccination’. An announcement regarding land border crossings should follow on November 8 this year.
CDC Regulations Applying to Visitors to United States
U.S. Centers for Disease Control announced new rules for non-U.S. citizens, and immigrants arriving by air:
1… These apply to non-U.S citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, and those arriving on immigrant visas.
2… All those categories must have full vaccinations before they may travel by airplane to the United States.
3… Further, they must show a negative COVID-19 test (or proof of recovery from the infection) before boarding their airplane.
4… All categories must in addition wear face masks over mouths and noses in enclosed areas of public transportation, including airplanes.
A Couple of Very Important Definitions to Know
The CDC rules applying to visitors to United States furthermore include the following definitions:
Full vaccination means one of the following:
1… Two weeks after an approved single-dose COVID-19 vaccine.
2… Fourteen days after the second dose of other approved vaccines.
3… Two weeks after participating in approved U.S. based active vaccine trials.
4… Fourteen days after the second dose of approved ‘mix and match’ vaccines.
Requirements for negative COVID-19 tests:
1… Persons who are fully vaccinated under the above rules, must also show test results taken no more than three days before travel.
2… However, if they are not fully vaccinated under those rules, then they must show test results taken no more than one day before travel.
There are detailed exemptions from test certificates for children under two years old. And also for people who have documented recovery within 90 days. Those rules can change too. Always ask your advisor for up-to-date advice before traveling.
