The Ademco Vista 15CN is an alarm system that provides security against fire, emergencies and burglary. It is manufactured by ADT and has a backup battery which looks like this. The battery allows the system to function even during power outages.
This battery recharges when the house electricity is on. If you see the keypad displays “BAT” with no zone number, that means the battery’s power is drained. Usually, it is accompanied by a beeping sound that you can turn off by pressing [1 OFF]. Restore the electricity and allow the battery to recharge for 24 to 48 hours. In case the warning is still there, it may be time for the battery to be replaced. This usually happens every 3-5 years.

To replace the Ademco Vista 15CN battery, follow these steps:
- Buy the replacement battery of the Ademco Vista 15CN.
- Place the system on test.
- Find the control panel and open it to reveal the backup battery. This panel is usually located in the attic, garage or in a closet.
- Remove the old battery by disconnecting the black wire from the negative terminal first before you remove the red wire from the positive terminal. If the wires are too tight, wiggle the wire to loosen it. Use pliers with insulated handles to protect yourself. BE CAREFUL when you remove the battery to avoid a short.
- Take off the plastic cover of the replacement battery before you connect the wires. Start with the red wire and connect it to the red terminal (positive). Then, connect the black wire to the black terminal (negative).
- Close the control panel box.
- Check if the keypad displays “BAT.” If it does, that is normal. But if it persists for the next 24 to 48 hours, that could mean the system is damaged. Call your alarm provider.
- Send the old battery for recycling.
