Smartphones continue with demands for thinner, faster, denser batteries. Apple went through a bad patch last year, with several lithium batteries exploding and consumers demanding answers. New Zealand Herald reports: Apple phones and batteries are in conflict once again. A new software update may be “draining batteries 25% faster” across the range, and this has angry users complaining.
How iOS 11.4 Has Apple Phones and Batteries Out of Sync

Common battery-saving sense dictates Apple users leave their apps dormant unless actually using them. Just having them turned on uses battery energy. However new software on iOS 11.4 appears to run counter to this principle.
“”My iPhone 6 was working perfectly fine until I updated to iOS 11.4 and ever since I did that my battery is draining rapidly even without me using it at all,” is a typical complaint. This is concerning. Has something intervened between Apple phones and batteries again? We investigated further. We agree with New Zealand Herald that the problem likely lies with a new feature.
The New Feature on iOS 11.4 That Is Draining Batteries

Apple engineers have set an app refresh feature as default, meaning users have to actively disable it if they do not want it. Or else this new feature constantly scours cyber space for updates and auto-installs them. Case closed, we suspect.
Users have to proactively launch their settings app from home screen, and then select general before turning background refresh off. We are at a loss to understand why they should not at least be receiving periodic warnings if it is running. After all, the efficiency of phone batteries is a major factor when choosing between brands.
Apple phones and batteries no longer seem to be such good friends again in the post-Steve-Jobs era. We understand Apple has yet to comment.
