The UK has a population just short of 67 million residents. Their known pandemic stats are 22.8 million cases, 22.2 million recoveries, and 180,718 deaths since COVID started. Independent News reports active cases jumped by more than half a million in a week, probably due to Omicron BA.4 and BA.5. When cases rise in UK like this, it is time to take care

Hospital Numbers Increase as Cases Rise in UK

Hospital cases are also beginning to increase, The Independent adds. There are early signs of a rise in intensive care admissions among older age groups too. The UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates 2.3 million people in private households had the virus last week. This is 32% up from a week earlier.

However, this is not the worst rate of cases in UK historically. That’s because this is still well below the Omicron BA.2 peak of 4.9 million at end March 2022. Colloquial information suggests the majority of the population are still not taking protection seriously.

Typical Symptoms Ill People Report

The UK operates a ZOE COVID Study App, allowing infected people to report their symptoms while suffering from the virus. This data indicates that a headache has become the most reported symptom.

In fact, over two out of three of those using the app reported headaches before returning positive tests. Some even suffered a headache before breathing difficulties, according to The Independent.

More Evidence of Repeat Infections Too

Professor Tim Spector leads the Zoe Health Study App. He told Guardian newspaper “There are definitely a lot of people who got COVID at the start of the year who are getting it again. This includes some with BA.4/5 who had BA.1/2 just four months ago, and thought they would be protected.”
