The deputy secretary-general of the United Nations is deeply concerned about the knock-on effects of Covid-19. She has issued a call for an extraordinary showing of solidarity to fight a triple crisis. That’s because the Coronavirus development has vaulted across a health and humanitarian emergency. This is compounding existing inequalities, she warns.

The Vulnerable Call for an Extraordinary Showing of Solidarity

Deputy secretary-general of the UN Amina Mohammed, is deeply concerned about the situation according to UN News. There are higher coronavirus death rates among marginalized people in advanced economies. This situation will compound in developing countries.

She makes a call for an extraordinary showing of solidarity among all nations. If we ignore the situation in developing countries, millions will fall back into poverty, she says. No one will escape the impact. Every one of us will feel the effect, as the economic divide transforms into a deep abyss.

Our World is at a Tipping Point says UN’s Amina Mohammed

Perhaps we stand at a cross roads for humanity, although only time will tell. If health systems collapse in the developing world, then we will feel the impact in the West. Moreover, we are only in temporary respite in terms of atmospheric pollution. The global rise in nationalism is making these situations harder to tackle.

We are inclined to agree with this global call for an extraordinary showing of solidarity among the world’s countries. For if we do not. then we could face the pressure of fresh migration. Floodgates could threaten to open once we have stopped the coronavirus outbreak in our own countries.

We do not presume to suggest what the North American response should be. However, we do sense a call to something real soon, while we still have time left to act decisively.
