Visitors to Canada and returning residents find precautions ramped up at airports to identify infected passengers and crew on arrival. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has activated the Health Portfolio Operations Center to coordinate all levels of government. This provides a single window to obtain a comprehensive view, and manage Canadian Covid-19 precautions as the situation evolves.

Trips to China Curtailed During Canadian Covid-19 Precautions

The Canadian government recommends its citizens avoid non-essential travel to China, and stay away from Hubei province completely. That’s because it may become impossible to enter or depart. Moreover medical treatment may be very expensive. Canadians currently in China should therefore leave immediately if at all possible.

Canadian Covid-19 precautions have rolled out at ten airports to identify infected arrivals. Officials have placed signs advising what to do next if anyone feels ill. This information is in French, Canadian and simple Chinese. There’s also a new screening question at electronic kiosks. Cleared travelers in addition receive information packs containing health advice.

Special Measures When Arrivals Display Signs and Symptoms

Airport officials contact a PHAC quarantine officer at the first sign of concern.  That officer makes a detailed assessment.  They then take measures to transport the person to hospital if indicated. They also report the matter to the local public health authority.

Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory has moreover developed a special real-time screening test. This test uses a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction to diagnose COVID-19 from clinical specimens. It observes the activation of certain genes, and studies the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of viruses to diagnose diseases.

The Canadian Covid-19 precautions include securing the health of diplomats abroad, and their families. All non-essential personnel and their dependents have already left mainland China. This includes vulnerable individuals and dependent school-aged children and younger. However, full consular services continue to assist remaining Canadians in China.
