It’s amazing how creative some folk become to avoid taking precautions, or justify refusing the vaccine. One line of reasoning we did not expect says drinking alcohol kills the virus stone dead. Now alcohol sanitizer must contain at least 60% ethanol, ethyl alcohol, isopropanol, or 2-propanol to be effective. That makes consuming alcohol to kill the COVID virus a non-starter. In fact it could help the virus along.
Consuming Alcohol in Excess Could Give the Coronavirus a Boost
Some folk start alcohol and substance abuse as a response to managing stress. Centers for Disease Control says the COVID-19 can increase this pressure on us. However consuming alcohol to kill the COVID virus is ‘contra-indicated’ because:
1… ‘Drinking alcohol weakens your body’s ability to fight infections, increasing the risk of complications and making it harder to get better if you are sick.’
2… ‘Alcohol use can increase the risk of acute respiratory distress syndrome and pneumonia, which are sometimes associated with COVID-19.’
Therefore, drinking alcohol in excess to keep your COVID shields up is a myth, and fake news. It is also an unsubstantiated rumor with no scientific basis. Besides, it’s simply not strong enough, even if you gargle.
Alternatives to Consuming Alcohol to Kill the COVID Virus
We guess you already know the answer before you read on, but we’ll repeat the information to counter any possible COVID fatigue.
1… Take all necessary precautions to protect someone breathing in the virus from an infected person. That means staying a distance away, wearing a face mask correctly, and washing / sanitizing your hands often as you can.
2… Take the vaccine when its available, just in case those shields fail. However, its main job is to protect you from getting very ill, and it may run down after a while.
3… Continue with those necessary precautions as long as Centers for Disease Control – not a politician – advises otherwise. Remember, other people have the same right as you to be protected from the disease.
