Cyril Northcote Parkinson wrote a book he called Parkinson’s Law. In it, he expounded his theory ‘work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion’. Parkinson should have known, because he was a naval historian. He also said ‘The void created by the failure to communicate is soon filled with poison, drivel and misrepresentation’. Is a failure to communicate the truth about COVID vaccine having a similar effect?
Poison, Drivel and Misrepresentation Flowing About COVID Vaccine
Parkinson also believed ‘The nice thing about standards is there are so many to choose from’. That could be a forecast of the state of social media, where there are so many unsubstantiated claims.
Topic specialist Derek Lowe gave us his take in Science Translation Medicine, but in his own voice this time. Do we have our government, the pharmaceutical industry, and ourselves to blame for tweets like this one forwarded 14,500 times? Derek cites it in his article:

The failure to communicate the truth about COVID vaccine caused another 987 twitter followers to quote the same message. That’s because the new ‘owners’ did not bother to look for proof of the statement, which Derek Lowe says ‘is simply not true’.
More Failures to Communicate About COVID Vaccine
You’ll find more examples in Derek Lowe’s post we link to below. We find it strange so many people are confused about vaccines, in this age of mass communication. Joseph Goebbels was the chief architect of Nazi propaganda. He wrote ‘Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth’.
Derek Lowe concludes his article by observing ‘We’re better off with the facts’. It’s our chosen job to carefully research the truth, and add to the body of knowledge impartially.
