With all the technology going on around us, we need to keep our mind on the basics. And those basics include the core purpose of battery development is to have a zero carbon footprint. In terms of transport this therefore means zero-emission vehicles. The Lightyear 0 that is ahead of the EV vehicle drive is signposting the way.
How Is the Lightyear 0 Ahead of the EV Vehicle Drive?
Well the Lightyear 0 reinvents the meaning of hybrid. You see, traditionally hybrid means a combo of renewable and fossil-based energy. But Lightyear 0 is light years ahead of this if you’ll excuse the pun. That’s because it is pure renewable energy plus the ability to auto top itself up.
Those gently flowing surfaces on the roof, hood and flowing trunk in the photo contain myriads of photoelectric cells. This means Lightyear 0 is busy topping itself up whether stationery or purring along a road, provided there’s daylight. Here are the performance figures you can expect if you are fortunate to own this electric vehicle according to CNN:
- A 388-mile driving range without recharging externally or from solar panels.
- A further 44-mile, daily drip-feeding boost from the roof, hood and trunk panels.
- Every hour of sunlight adds six miles thereby reducing time at charging points.
How Climate Influences Lightyear 0 Driving Range
CNN explains how this works in terms of a 22-mile daily commute. If you lived in a hot country – they cite Spain and Portugal as examples – you might only need an external top up every seven months.
However, if you lived in a cooler country such as the Netherlands then this might be necessary every two months according to the Dutch manufacturer. But you would have to sacrifice driving performance if you qualified, perhaps as early as November 2022.
That’s because your Lightyear 0 that’s ahead of the electric vehicle drive will cost you slightly more than the Ferrari Roma at $262,000. Moreover, it will have markedly inferior performance, because the focus is on driving range. We think we’ll wait for a more affordable version at an estimated $30,000 to come.
