Shanghai COVID Cases Approach Wuhan’s

China’s investigative media group Caixin Global confirmed Shanghai COVID cases topped 13,000 daily on April 5, 2022. This is a new record for a financial hub home to 24.5 million people, with average 7,200 per square mile. We can only wonder what will happen next, as Shanghai COVID cases approach Wuhan’s peak.

City Lockdown as Shanghai COVID Cases Approach Wuhan’s

Yahoo reports the director of Shanghai’s Gu Honghui working group on epidemic control saying, ‘the situation is extremely grim’. We have seen reports of surreal city landscapes as the vast metropolis enters total lock down. Over 10,000 additional health workers have gathered there as stories emerge of constrained food supplies.

However, we are confident China has resources to deal with the logistical challenges, as it moves its city from sector to overall lockdown. Some residents told a BBC reporter they are not even allowed to leave home to shop for food and other necessities. As Shanghai COVID cases approach Wuhan’s peak we wonder is this part of new normal.

Is This Simply an Omicron Variant Stretching Its Wings?

We posted an article earlier this week about scientists who deliberately infected patients with COVID under carefully controlled circumstances. They found a single molecule of virus was sufficient to spread the disease.

Moreover, they did their research before Omicron arrived. This emphasizes the virus could easily spread past poorly-fitting masks. China appears to be continuing its relentless policy of infection elimination. Some might argue this is unnecessary, because the symptoms are increasingly mild.

But, it could also be prudent to remember the coronavirus has mutated before, and it will undoubtedly do so again. We wish Shanghai health authorities the best of good luck as they do what they believe is best for their citizens. We would not want to be in their shoes ‘for all the tea in China’ as the old adage goes.

About Author

I have been writing about batteries and energy storage for more than ten years, and have published over 4,000 articles on this website. During that time, I have researched developments across lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, flow batteries, and emerging energy-storage technologies. My goal is to explain complex battery concepts in clear, practical language that anyone can understand. My writing career began unexpectedly after leaving the corporate world. What started as a search for a new direction gradually became a fascination with batteries, renewable energy, and the science that powers modern life. Writing may not have made me wealthy, but it has given me the opportunity to explore an industry that continues to evolve in remarkable ways.
