Stretch Your Main Electric Car Battery Life

A main electric car battery has two limitations. The first of these is how many miles you can drive before recharging it again. While the second is how many times you can recharge it before it degrades too far. We wrote this article to explain how to stretch your main electric car battery life, and why.

Ways To Stretch Your Main Electric Car Battery Life

Every time you recharge your electric car battery, it loses a small amount of its electrical potential. The manufacturer should explain how many times you can do so, and still have enough energy to power the vehicle.

But there’s not much you can do on that score, except use the vehicle less, which defeats the purpose. However, we do have some tips to share about driving economically, with a light foot on the gas so to speak. In other words, stretch your ‘gallon of electricity’ as much as you can.

For if you do, you’ll not only be able to achieve a slightly longer driving range between charging. You also won’t need to plug your vehicle in so often to top it up. But over and above that, you’ll save on your electricity bill which is always a good thing.

How to Stretch a ‘Gallon of Electricity’ Further

Use the economy mode as often as you can, limit your speed to 60 miles per hour, and take advantage of regenerative braking whenever possible. Remember what your driving instructor told you in gasoline days. The same principles apply. Accelerate and brake smoothly to save energy.

And finally, remember the heavier the load, the more energy you need to transport it. Don’t drive around with things in the trunk unnecessarily. The same principles apply as with gasoline autos. Except this time you are a whole lot greener!

Should I wait to charge my battery until it is way down? Or is it ok to “top it off” when it is at 3/4? I am charging off the solar panels on my roof so I like to charge on a sunny day.
