‘Being positive is like going up a mountain. Being negative is like sliding down a hill. A lot of times, people want to take the easy way out, because it’s basically what they’ve understood throughout their lives.’ So says American Rapper Chuck D. It’s a great analogy for the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially since there’s no fast boost from the virus either.
But You Don’t Have to Take Our Word For This
CDC director Dr. Anthony Fauci was chatting with CNN Health on September 26, 2021. We will not boost our way out of this pandemic, he said while 70 million eligible Americans remain unvaccinated. We guess much the same applies to other vaccine-shy nations too.
‘The most vulnerable are those unvaccinated people,’ Dr. Rochelle Walensky of CDC said Friday. Perhaps she was thinking of a recent analysis by CNN Health, revealing COVID-19 deaths are four times higher in U.S. states with the lowest vaccination rates. When we compare them with those states with highest rates.
However, we can vaccinate people with booster shots as much as we like. But they will still have breakthroughs from vaccine deniers for as long as these remain in their silos of denial. They should vaccinate themselves to protect other people and stop the pandemic spreading. This is not just about their health.
If There Is No Fast Boost Away From the Virus, Then What?
We’re not saying for a moment vulnerable people ought not to boost. They have a right to protect themselves. The government has a duty to deliver the service. The only way to prevent hospitals overflowing is to slow the rate of infection.
We could also achieve this by constantly face masking, social distancing, and frequently sanitizing. But of course we know this is not going to happen. If there is no fast boost from the virus through additional shots. Then surely the only way to achieve this, is universal vaccination.
