If you just came back from shopping for batteries and the week’s groceries, you may be feeling confused. That’s because the groceries had labels that explained what they were for, and how to use them. Whereas the blister packs of batteries provided little information you could use as a buyers guide to batteries.

A General Guide to Batteries for Buyers

How many batteries did you need when you went shopping? The possibilities are endless, but the chances are you were in a bad space, If you did not know the battery type, and code you needed.

Much of the confusion lies in the fact that batteries all do the same basic thing, although their output varies. All batteries, no matter their type, convert latent chemical energy to electrical energy. This is how it works:

  • Electrons on one side of the battery release their tiny negatively-charged particles we call electrons.
  • These tiny negatively-charged electrons flow across to the other side of the battery as electric current.
  • This current powers our devices after we insert the batteries, and complete the circuit by turning them on.

So simple it all sounds, so why did we need to write this article? We wrote the article because batteries are useful. Although they can also become dangerous on a small number of occasions.

Things Some Battery Packs May Not Tell You

Batteries contain pastes and fluids inside, through which the electrons flow from one side to the other. These pastes and fluids help create the electric current. But they may also catch fire if the battery malfunctions.

Such fires should not happen if the battery comes from a company which applies the necessary quality and safety standards. Your takeaway from this buyers guide to batteries should therefore be this. Only purchase batteries from suppliers you have good reason to trust.

I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
