COVID-19 and Symptoms of Its Variants

The past two years have quite a whirlwind, as COVID-19 jumped to new variants and confounded scientists. We thought it time to pause and clear our minds regarding the warning signs. So today we wrap up and summarize warning signs of COVID-19, and the symptoms of its variants.

General COVID Symptoms Versus Seasonal Flu We Know

Caro Mount Health agrees typical seasonal flu symptoms include fever, or having chills. But a cough, sore throat and runny nose may also be present. Finally, muscle / body aches, headaches, fatigue and vomiting / diarrhea may occur.

When COVID-19 first appeared in China, mystified scientists called it ‘Wuhan Flu’. That was because it had symptoms similar to the seasonal illness. But that was before doctors started noticing shortness of breath, new losses of taste and smell, and also blocked noses. By the time they reached this conclusion the COVID-19 virus has spread to Europe.

COVID-19 and Symptoms of Delta and Omicron Variants

The Alpha, Beta and Gamma variants that followed were soon overtaken by Delta. However Delta was meaner, although the main symptoms were limited to headache, sore throat, runny, nose, and fever. But Delta could be deadlier among older, and immuno compromised people.

However, our main focus is on the Omicron variant rapidly overtaking Delta. It has similar symptoms to the general COVID-19 stable, but with two exceptions. These new symptoms include sneezing and night sweats, although overall severity is less.

We are not yet through the COVID-19 pandemic. We may have moved to the middle phase, or even shifted closer back to the beginning. It may be our patriotic duty to protect each other by vaccinating, and isolating ourselves if  ill. But it also makes sense to preserve our national and world economies.

I tripped over a shrinking bank balance and fell into the writing gig unintentionally. This was after I escaped the corporate world and searched in vain for ways to become rich on the internet by doing nothing. Despite the fact that writing is no recipe for wealth, I rather enjoy it. I will not deny I am obsessed with it when I have the time. I live in Margate on the Kwazulu-Natal south coast of South Africa. I work from home where I ponder on the future of the planet, and what lies beyond in the great hereafter. Sometimes I step out of my computer into the silent riverine forests, and empty golden beaches for which the area is renowned. Richard
