Innovative Battery at CES 2026 Expo

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, is the world’s largest tech trade event. This is an obvious place to show off what could be a brilliant new battery. A relative newcomer to the market, named Donut Lab, is exhibiting an innovative battery at CES 2026. And they say this is ‘the future of electrification’.

What This Innovative Battery Promises at CES 2026

The media have been humming with this news. However, we chose to go back to the source, at the media release we link to below. From what we read there, ‘the world’s first all-solid-state battery’ is ready to power electric vehicles.

This product is apparently already powering a brand of motorcycles. But now, Donut Lab insists, it can scale up to the power demands of four-wheeler electric vehicles:

  • The novel all-solid-state battery from Donut Lab, supplies 400 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg) of energy density.
  • Average lithium-ion battery density ranges from 100 to 265 Wh/kg. Some advanced chemistries reach 300 Wh/kg.

This suggests that the innovative battery at CES 2026 could be lighter than the norm, and deliver a longer driving range. Moreover, Donut Lab adds, it can charge to 100% in just five minutes. And ‘discharge safely, repeatedly, and reliably’ too.

The media release does not disclose the materials, or the chemistry of this novel battery. Although it does confirm that it is cheaper than lithium-ion, and  uses ‘abundant, affordable, and geopolitically safe materials’.

The product apparently does nor rely on ’rare or sensitive elements’ either. Donut Lab confirms they can manufacture this innovative battery at CES 2026, to suit any drone or vehicle chassis.

Please note: This article is not intended to promote Donut Lab products. We provide this information in case this marks a significant step along the battery evolution road.

About Author

I have been writing about batteries and energy storage for more than ten years, and have published over 4,000 articles on this website. During that time, I have researched developments across lead-acid, lithium-ion, sodium-ion, flow batteries, and emerging energy-storage technologies. My goal is to explain complex battery concepts in clear, practical language that anyone can understand. My writing career began unexpectedly after leaving the corporate world. What started as a search for a new direction gradually became a fascination with batteries, renewable energy, and the science that powers modern life. Writing may not have made me wealthy, but it has given me the opportunity to explore an industry that continues to evolve in remarkable ways.
