Shortly afterwards, U.S. Centers for Disease Control CDC published new face mask advice as the Kent virus spreads.
As Kent Virus Spreads, These Are CDC’s New Face Mask Guidelines
Centers for Disease Control conducted fresh experiments towards improving the fit of medical procedure masks. On February 10, 2021, it announced the following guidelines for maximizing protection.
1… First, fit a cloth mask over a medical procedure mask
2… Knot the medical mask ear loops, and tuck them in
3… Then flatten the extra material close to your face
4… Each step considerably improves your ‘source control’
5… After you do these things you should reduce your exposure
The CDC’s new face mask advice as the Kent virus spreads, highlights the importance of a close fit at all times. However, these are not the only ways to optimize face masks and effectively slow the spread of COVID-19.
How Face Masks Are Such an Important Part of Our Virus Strategy
Viruses that affect our breathing invade our mouths and noses when we inhale naturally as part of our life cycle. They enter our lungs when we inhale them, and can even shut the system down.
We can’t stop our breathing. Therefore our only option is to filter the air we inhale. Face masks are the only generally available measure, but they are not all equally effective filters. Doubling them up should compound their usefulness provided we change them regularly. And remember to sanitize them before and after each and every use.
