A Canadian company in Vancouver has come up with a novel idea. If the Covid-19 virus enters through the nose when the victim breathes it in, why not turn that space into a hostile environment so it can’t take hold? The Global and Mail reports Health Canada approved a clinical trial of their plan to stop the virus in the nasal tract.
A Novel Spray to Stop the Virus in the Nasal Tract
The Vancouver company has developed a method to deliver nitric oxide gas to the upper-respiratory tract. This is a gas that patients inhale to relax muscle, and dilate blood vessels especially in the lungs. We understand doctors use it in conjunction with ventilators to treat respiratory failure in premature babies.
SaNOtize Corp. of Vancouver has found a way to release the chemical from a special liquid solution as a spray. Institute for Antiviral Research at Utah State University says this solution is effective against the SARS-CoV-19 virus causing the Covid 19 disease. This in a nut shell is the plan to stop the virus in the nasal tract.
A Preventative Treatment for People at High Exposure Risk
If this new antiviral chemical passes the first round of clinical trials, then it could become a preventative treatment. The corporation’s chief science officer Chris Miller imagines it defending front-line health workers. It would not be a vaccine of course. However it could potentially help when physical distancing is a thing of the past
SaNOtize Research and Development Corp. was testing its special solution as treatment for chronic sinusitis prior to the Covid-19 outbreak. Application involves daily gargling, a comprehensive nose rinse, and repeated nose sprays.
It’s pretty much like a nose sanitizer, chief science officer Chris Miller explains. We wish the corporation every success with their plan to stop the SARS-CoV-19 virus in the nasal tract.
